Reflection Of The First Day Of EOTC Week

These 4 days I have been going on EOTC Week. That is when all the seniors go on a trip for a week or for 4 days. This time we did it for 4 days. Every day we had to get to school at 8:30. Room 3, room 10 and us room 11/12 went the first day to Clip and climb and Ice Skating. We first went to Clip and climb. We all traveled on a bus. At Clip and Climb I was really good at rope climbing I went all the way to the top and when we got  to the top we had to say look down below. That is for the people at the bottom to “Look out I’m coming down.” It was really fun. My favorite part was when I have to say “Look down below.” After that we got on the bus and we were on the way to Ice Skating. At Ice Skating we had to get size for our skates. My size of skates were size 4. It was my first time going skating. It was hard at first but when I got the rhythm I was really good. I only failed 11 time that's good right. After that we got some time to have lunch.  I had my tuna sandwich, Yummy. After that we went back onto the Ice ring. After that we went back to school and it was home time.

On Tuesday the 28th of November. The seniors of Hornby Primary School did Athletics. The events we had were: Shotput, Discus, Long Distances (Running), Sprints, High Jump and Long Jump. All of the school did Athletics, but the juniors did a different type of Athletics. We had to stay in our age groups. I am 9 years old but I'm turning 10 in December. I came 6th in Long Distances (Running). I think I have done good in my Long Distances (Running). Next time I think I could do better in my Long Jump.        

What is Global Warming?

Hi guys, these three weeks I have not been doing a lot of blog posting because I was to busy doing my  information report. Anyway, let's get on with my post. For this term in writing we have a new writing topic called "Information Report." We have to chose a topic to work on for three weeks. I like this topic because we get to learn more about our world and how it works? I chose Global Warming as my topic. At first I didn't know about Global Warming. Now that I have lots of information I know lots and I can teach others.

Global Warming

Bula, my name is Risha. I am going to take you on an adventure through Global Warming. What is Global Warming? I will be telling you about what is Global Warming, what is Greenhouse Gas and how it works. I gathered as much information for a Information Report. My conclusion is that I think about this as a really good opportunity for our people to learn about planet earth and how the earth gets hotter. This adventure is going to be v ery fun for you and me because I didn’t know what Global Warming was at first. I hope you like my adventure through my information report on Global Warming and planet earth.  

What is Global Warming?

Every year the earth gets hotter in the inside and the outside. Global Warming doesn’t have a certain date when it will happen. Scientist have to find out which day the earth will get hotter and why will it be that day. Like in 2017 the temperature raised on August 10th. When the earth got hotter there was even a time for when it would happened. Here is the time: 02:01pm. Both land and sea has warmed up. People started recording how much the temperature raised in 1880. I found this information at Live Science. If you want to find more just check out Live Science. That’s all I could find about what Global Warming is. I am quite surprised that there was even the time for when earth warmed up.

    What is Greenhouse Gas and what does it do?
Greenhouse gas is not house that you grow plants in.  The Greenhouse gas is a border around the earth that is made with 3 types of gases Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Nitrous Oxides. We are responsible for the Greenhouse because we make all those gases in the air. How do we make pollution? The factories smoke, car smoke, cigarettes, planes, trains and much more. Here is another reason why we have pollution. If we keep cutting down trees we will have more pollution. How do trees help with pollution, I’ll answer that, the trees breathe in pollution and they let out healthy air for us humans. If we didn’t have the gases the earth would be cold. How it gets hotter and drier?

Global Warming will change things between the poles as well. There are already dry areas from Global Warming. The dry areas are expected to become more drier. The Greenhouse traps the sun's rays which make planet earth hotter. The Greenhouse does not have power to hold the sun's rays. When the earth gets hotter these are the following things that happen: cities on coast will flood, sea levels will rise when the sun shines bright to melt the ice and the ice mountains in Antarctica. Places that have rain a lot or have snowfall will get hotter and drier, lakes and rivers will dry up, there will be much less water for drinking, showers and for swimming pool. How the ice melts in Antarctica?

Antarctica is very cold place to be living and going for a holiday. Antarctica has been melting for a very long time. It is because of Global warming. Now Antarctica is get really small. People are very worried about how the animals will survive? It is a very big problem. Very soon Antarctica will be covered with water. Even the island like: Fiji, Samoa and lots more in the Pacific Ocean. That is really sad  for the animals..  

Layers of the Earth?

If you cut in the middle of the earth you will see layers. In total of layers there are 4. The layers have names here are all 4 names of the layers Crust, Mantle, Outer Core and Inner Core. The first layer (Crust) is covered with land, air and water. The next layer after Curst is (Mantle) it is red and it is very hot. Mantle just consists of rocks. After Crust and Mantle it is (Outer Core). Outer Core is liquid and inner Core is soiled. It is just the same thing but it is just soiled on the inside and on the outside is liquid. Those are really good facts.

!Reflection!

Hi guys, these two whole weeks our class has been going to Canterbury Swim School. This is our last day at Canterbury Swim School. The last day is very import because it is all about being safe in the water and how to save somebody from drowning.  My personally goal is to do two laps of the deep pool without stopping. I did do a lap without stopping. Today I want to complete my goal. For the last day our swimming teacher told us to bring normal clothes with us so they could test out how we swim with are normal clothes. We even needed to bring are swimming suit. So we can put are swimming suit underneath our normal clothes. Our teacher told us to look out for nets, plants, animals and rubbish where ever we go swimming. I was a bit scared when I jumped off the diving board. We had to have are hands on our shoulders crosswise then jump. After that we had to get a noodle and try to save our buddies from drowning. My buddies is Lyan. I saved her first and then she saved me. It was awesome.

Maths DLO !Geometry!

Hi guys, it is great to be back on the blog and posting more maths DLO's. Speaking of maths this term our maths class is working on geometry. Before get into geometry we had to do a test about geometry. So our teachers would know what group we are in. I thought I would be in the low group but I went to the top group. In the top group our teacher said we have to do a two DLO the first one is about counting the faces, edges and corners on any shape. The second one is to do a DLO about symmetry and that will be on my blog very soon. Thank you and here is my DLO.

My First lesson At Canterbury Swim School

Hi guys, finally the two weeks holidays are over and I am back in school YEAH. Anyway this term is 

so hot because summer is here so that means we have to wear hats. There is something else that is new swimming. For two weeks our class is going to go swimming at Canterbury Swim School. We travel in a bus to Canterbury Swim School. I have been swimming for 5 years. Our class started at the 3rd of October.  

After travelling on the bus we got off the bus and went straight in the entrance. Our teacher Miss Millard told us to take are shoes and socks off and get into three lines. As we went into the door there was another class that was leaving. I felt excited and nervous well first of all I am going swimming second of all what if I don't go in the deep pool. I would have to go in the small pool. After I got changed I went and sat on the bench on the other side of the pool. First the swimming instructor told us about the safety instruction. After that it was time to get in to our groups. Surprisingly I got put in the deep pool. I went with Andrew the name of my swimming teacher. The teacher Andrew told us to do freestyle so he could check out our skill. We did five laps of the deep pool. After five laps it was time get changed. Finally after changing. Our class put are shoes and socks on. Then hopped on the bus. I sat with my friend Evelyn.

Adding Awesome Fractions

Hi guys, this week my maths group has been learning about adding fractions using multiplication. At first it was a bit hard for me, but I got used to it quickly. I have made a DLO for you so you can understand it as well and learn new things in maths.

Kuri facts

This week my group called the Duffy Kids is working on kuri's. If you don't know what is a kuri it is a Maori way of saying dog. We had to make a DLO from the article (kuri). When we did are DLO we could chose these things to make your DLO: Powtoon, Slide Show, Clay or Stop Motion Movie. I chose a slide show. My friend Sophia made a Powtoon.

Telling The Time Slide Show

This new term we have a new topic for maths. We are working to tell the time. We have to do a slide show that our teacher had made for us and we have to tell the time. We had to just turn the hour hand and minute hand to tell the time on the clock. Telling The Time Video

This term my group for maths has been working on telling the time. We have to do a slide show that our teacher had made for us and we have to tell the time. My slide show will be posted on my blog as well as my DLO My friend and I have already finished our slide show. After that our teacher told us to do a DLO a Digital Learning Objects. TA DA Power of the Pyramids!!!!!!!

For the past term our class has been work on mysteries. There were lots of mysteries to chose from like: Easter Island, UFO Crash and the Power of the Pyramids and lots more. I chose the mystery Power of the Pyramid. We had to build a 3D creation of our mystery. The W.A.L.T is to create a model that

 shares something we have learnt about our mystery. So I made a Pyramid. Two of my friends were in my group. Their names are Mikayla and Mattisin. We had lots of fights about the Pyramid. It was really challenging and that is what you should have if you were in a group like this.  It was like I was building a real Pyramid. 

For the past weeks our class has been working on mysteries. I have been working on the power of the pyramid. We had to write a speech that said what you think is in the pyramids and is there power in the pyramids. I made a video of my speech. There are lots of facts so please check my video out. BYE

Remainders DLO

These past few weeks the squares and pentagons have been working on remainders. That is when you have a question and it is a division problem. You can have a remainder when some numbers are left. Like when I have

 35 ÷ 10 = 3 remainder 5. How would it equal 3 remainder 5? You will have to find out in my video. This is a very easy strategy I am really great at this. This will really help me in my divisions.

My Maths Week 4

This week our group had to work on a DLO. We had to learn how to Solve Multiplication Problems By Partitioning. I had fun doing this strategy. I hope you learn from this strategy. Cultural Show

This term we have been looking at different cultures. For the last 3 weeks we have been learning a traditional cultural dance. Our parents came and saw us dancing the Samoan Sasa. I learnt the Sasa. I felt proud because I tried my best doing the Sasa.

Beach Art

My Sculpture! 

W.A.L.T create an original Sculpture using objects found on the beach.   

This week been doing are sculpture of the things that we have collected from Spenser park. We first had to take all of the things we needed. The second step was to make a plan on paper and show the teacher. The third step was to put every thing together and show the teacher again. The next step was to use the hot glue gun and glue the places that needed glue. That was it.    

My Sculptures name is: Puss Boots Why I called my sculpture Puss Boots because Puss Boots has a feather on its hat. I put and shell and some feathers and a pine cone to make the body. My inspiration was the shell and feather.

Spencer Park

On Friday 10th of March my class and I went to Spencer park. We travelled by bus and car. We took 2 busses and 5 cars. I sat on the bus. There were 7 teachers. I sat with my friend Mikayla. It was loud on the bus. We went in the morning. I was really excited because it was my first time going to Spencer park. 

First, we went to the Lagoon walk. It was a long walk. We saw horses on the way. On the way we saw a big fluffy dog.  It looked excited to meet us. The dog was leading the way. I thought it was the Dulux dog. Half  way on the lagoon walk I was feeling hungry. When we got to the Lagoon spot we went in a hideout to see some cool birds.  There lots of long and small birds. I saw a white and black bird. There were lots of hideouts by the birds. After that we got a snack. When we went back we found lots of feathers.

After the lagoon walk we went back to the playground 5 minutes to play.  I first went on was the rope climbing wall. It was quite big. I went all the way to the top. People were jumping on it so I just went down. The next thing I played on was the flying fox. There were three flying foxes. I went on all of them. Then I went on the wire. We can walk on it. It was scary because there were people that were moving it. I thought I would of full off. The 5 minutes were over.  

Next, we went to the beach. It was a long walk and sand was in my shoes which I hate! When we got there we took our shoes and socks off  and went to grab some shells. It was hard to find shells.  Some people didn't even get shells they just made big holes. After that we did a sandcastle competition. I worked with Ella, Alla and Pame. We had 2 doors, cool rocks and seaweed. The teacher took a photo.  There were lots of other schools Then we went back to put our shoes and socks on and went back to the playground.  I felt happy because I put my feet in the water and it was cold.

When we went back from the beach we ate at the playground. The other groups came and ate at the playground as well. For lunch I had Chicken nuggets. Mmmmmmmmmmm it was yummy. After eating my lunch we could play on the playground. I played on the flying fox. That was the only thing I played on. It was like I was in the jungle because I came out of the bushes and onto the playground It was the last place at Spencer's Park.

Finally, it was time to leave Spencer Park. When we were all on the bus I sat by Mikayla again. I was tired from going to Spencer Park but I was sad as well because it was really fun. Me and Mikayla were playing with are shells. We also made a song “Shells shells shells.”   I explored lots. I learnt lots at Spencer Park. One thing I learnt  was that you have to be very quiet to see the cool birds.

In Ako Ngatahi we had to write a narrative about a video. It was about a boy opening a present that was a dog with three legs. Here is the video of the present. I hope you enjoy my story.

The Present

The Present

One sunny day blinds shut I was playing video games. Then my mum came home with a present and opened the blinds. My eyes went bright. Mum said “Open the present that I got you. I looked in the box and there was a puppy. “Cool” I said.  It was light brown and had smooth fur. I saw his paw was broken. I threw it away and started to play my video game again, acting like I did not care.

The dog found a red ball. He bumped into the cupboard and he got the ball. I thought it was a very silly dog. The dog gave it to me and turned its head. I kicked the ball away.  The dog went to catch it but he fell in the box. He tried to get out of the box. I smiled at the puppy. Thinking of how silly he was. Bumping into things he went out of the box.  Thinking of where was the red ball. It was right in front of me. He caught the ball and gave it to me. I smiled and got up on my crutches.

Putting the ball in my pocket. Opening the back door. I said “Mum we’ll be outside. I think this dog is very silly. There is no dog like this. I like him, he's just like me. I think my dog and I will go perfect in the future.

Leaning Goals

This week we had a parent teacher meeting. This is  goal settings for 2017. It was about setting our goals. I was a bit worried when it was my turn, but it was easy. The goals are for maths, reading and writing.

This week we went to the High School and met a man. His name was John Parsons. John Parsons talked about what happens online. Cyber Smart means safe in the internet world.
