Early Encounters In Aotearoa

Early Encounters In Aotearoa

Hi, guys today I will be blogging about the first-ever European encounters with Māori. These facts are all from an episode called History of Aotearoa. What do you know about New Zealand encounters with the Europeans?  Here are my facts.

The first European Explorer to came to New Zealand in 1642 who was Abel Tasmin, he also named the land of Aotearoa Neauivea Zealandia. The explorer next that came in 1769 was called James Cook. When he arrived he went to different villages and found his chief navigator Tu Paia. When the Europeans arrived they also brought Pig, Disease, Potatoes. When James Cook arrived he brought something called a Musket, which is a type of gun. That started the musket war but then finished in the late 1830s. Soon there were wars with Pakeha with Māori it became really hard for warriors. Māori's outrun the Pakeha buy 40 of 1 in 1840.

That is all I have to share today here is a video. BYE!

TASKS FOR HURUMANU

Ciao, guys today I want to share a task we have been doing in "Who
Are We" hurumanu. For the task, we have to answer questions about
our past people in New Zealand. Like what challenges did they face
and how did they overcome them. Here is my task. Adios.

  1. What challenges did travellers face when the only way to travel long distances across the sea was by canoe?

The voyagers faced lots of challenges, they had to preserve food and supplies for the whole trip which could be longer than 10 months. Once and a while they would fish for food and they collect rainwater to drink. There were a lot of storms so it would be hard to navigate around at night with the stars hidden behind the clouds. Voyagers would have to wait until the clouds past so they would be on the right path. The journey was harder with the olden day navigation systems, they would have to navigate in the daylight the swell of the sea and seek for debris for clues of islands upheld. Swell is another way to say how the waves are formed. At night they would look at the stars and find the right way. Being the navigator was hard, you would have to work the hardest from all the crew. They would have not much sleep and keep an eye on the path every minute. The voyagers had to choose the right people to bring with them on the long and dangerous trip. These people would help to build houses and look after plants and animals. They brought over dogs and rats as well and as plants.

  1. Imagine being on a canoe with dozens of people for weeks. What would make it hard? What would help make it easier?

There are a lot of things that would make it harder and easier of being on a boat with people going with the path of nature and hoping you are on the right path through the stars and the movement of waves to try to find a new island. Let us start off with the things that will make it harder for being on a boat with people for several months. Storms, while sailing at sea voyagers would have to be careful about how the sailed because storms would be a big issue and would help their path to a new island. Packing enough food for the trip is mandatory, without enough it would be hard to survive and you would have to survive on a small serving of food to last the whole trip. Things that made it easier was that instead of having one waka the had 2 nga waka to make it easier.

3. Do you know of other cultures where people have travelled long distances to settle in other places? What traditions and customs are evidence of that?

One of the cultures that travelled a long distance was the British. For example, the invasion of the British in India was difficult for Indian culture. Great British had drained India’s wealth in the economy and from regular people. It had made India very poor, and corrupt. The British changed the India economy and wealth. It also showed India to be more western and different from there culture.

4. Explain the difference between ancestors and descendants in your own words?

An ancestor is your older generation like your parents, grandparents and also great grandparents etc.

Descendants are people or things that come from an ancestor, for example, “He’s a descendant of Queen Elizabeth.”

Sugar - Too Much or Too Little

Sugar - Too Much or Too Little

Hi, guys today I will be talking about one of the most important health concerns, sugar. Do you know how much sugar you have daily?

The maximum amount of sugar you are meant to have a day is 6 teaspoons. It is healthier to have an orange than have one glass of orange juice. Why? Well, orange has more than 18 teaspoons in one bottle, while one orange has less than 1 teaspoon of sugar and has more fibre than orange juice. There are many ways to avoid sugar like don't drink fizzy drinks, eat sugarless food, and check the packaging before buying or eating. Really bad stuff can happen if you don't take care of your sugar intake like you can get heart disease, diabetes type two and liver failure. That is all for today hope you enjoyed my post about sugar and hope you learnt something new. Bye!

Interview with Mark The Martian

Hi, guys today we had to do and question and answer with "Mark Watney." To be very clear this movie is not real and I am basically doing a fake Interview. Here is my report hope you liked it!

Well-known astronaut, Mark Watney stranded on Mars for 560 sols. The hardest thing for him was being alone, doing daily work on the rover, plants, and also rethinking everything. His immediate reaction was “I will never survive.” He got his passion for going to Mars from Nasa all the extraordinary work they have done in the past. He quoted that he would “Definitely do that experience again and I wouldn’t change anything.” He says the person he would thank for the rest of his life is Mindy Park.

The Martian - Prediction

Welcome, back in class we were watching the Martian and had to do a prediction here is my prediction.

My prediction is that this is about a man who gets abandon on planet mars. He now has to make his own food so he tries to grow plants in a known habitation planet. He used his spaceship to make solar panels and hopes to survive in the cold, hot weather.

Characters: Martinez - Astrount+Pilot,  Commander Lewis,  Mark Watney, Beth Johansson, Rich Purnell, Annie Montrose, Chris Beck, Teddy Sanders, Mindy Park,

Setting: Mars

What have you seen? Three details

  1.    Mark survived a storm and is now stranded on Mars.

  2.    People on earth think he is died by getting hit by a satellite dish in the storm.

  3.    Nasa’s people were on a mission on mars then had to abort because of the storm.

Firstly Mark Watney has woken up from a storm that the Nasa Astronaut have aborted. Mark got hit by a satellite and is stab on his tummy. After taking that satellite out of him he had to find a way to survive 4 years before the next team come onto Mars. He had to create plants and water for more than four years. He used vacuum-packed human waste as fertilizer and then had to burn hydrogen to make water. Nasa has found out that he is still alive from the satellites around Mars.

Then Mark has to find a way to get back to earth, thankfully the crew members that left him on Mars help him. The crew members have to fly in there space ship the Hermes into earth space orbit and garbed the resupplies of necessary items. Then had to travel back to Mars to give the supplies to Mark and also had to get Mark as they went.

In the end, Mark had to fly into space in his MAV he had to take out all the equipment and the controls so Martinez the Astrount pilot. He had to take out the windows and put a tarp on top of it. When launching into space the tarp fell off and Mark was unconscious for a while. When he woke up he was going to fast for him to be caught so he cuts a hole in his suit and flys to the commander lewis and she catches him. 3 years later he is teaching people in NASA how to survive on Mars alone.

Did any of your predictions come true? Yes, my prediction was true and I did predict correctly.
